The fewer travel nurses a company works with, the fewer reviews they stand to get. This means there are hundreds of agencies working with an average of 50 travel nurses per year. According to Staffing Industry Analysts, 36 companies account for 62% of the market. Of course, there are a relatively small number of large travel nursing companies that control a significant percentage of the market. That’s an average of just over 100 travel nurses per agency. Meanwhile, there are over 300 healthcare staffing companies engaged in travel nurse staffing. We estimate there were 32,000 travel nurses in 2016.

This is largely due to the fact that the travel nursing industry is quite small and has a relatively large number of agencies.
